It’s almost always an exciting time when a person makes the first major purchase of their life. Usually, in the United States, cars are an adult’s initial foray into financial responsibility (if you don’t count student loans). Many factors affect the overall decision process of buying a car, and here are some guidelines for first-time car buyers.

Have fun: One of the most common mistakes people make when buying a new car is stressing themselves out. The truth of the matter is there’s a lot more to enjoy than to be bummed about like the great selection of cars as well as the financing rates that translate to great deals all around.

Test drive: First-time car buyers should test drive the vehicles that they fancy. On the outside, sure, a car looks enticing, but then there are factors like comfort and ease of driving that can only be confirmed through a test drive. Test driving a vehicle can also save a person a ton of regret.

Preferences: People should list down what they want in a car and go for it. People ought to ask questions geared towards this list and keep an eye out for all those things that they want. When they finally find a car that has most of the items on the preference list, they’ll be happy.

Growing a business will always be challenging. Even a company that has been in existence for decades still find that bringing something new to the table requires continuous effort while keeping up with the times. With an ever-changing society and consumer needs, how then can a business continue developing? Here are three ways:

Broaden the market.

Going beyond the company’s target market requires extra research and changes in marketing strategies. However, this is necessary to reach out to more people and introduce the company to a different demographic. These days though, there’s no longer a one-size-fits-all approach to marketing, it’s important to maximize all platforms to bring a business into the consciousness of many.

Pursue dream projects.

Following business trends may not always be good for the company. Once in a while, it’s important for a business to do what they really want. It may be considered as something out of their usual style but pursuing these dream projects might bring the team more success compared to their usual offerings. It’s alright for businesses to think of internal growth and pursue that by going out of the box.

Collaborate with other businesses.

In this age of like-share-follow, collaboration is key to growth. It may be as simple as sponsoring another company’s event. It can also be in the form of developing new products and using each other’s services. Even in the business world, no man is an island. This is why it’s always important to be associated with great ventures. When thinking of collaborations, however, businesses must strategize and choose wisely.

Choosing between buying a new or used car does not have a one-size-fits-all recommendation. Both options have distinct advantages, some of those are listed below.

Advantages of buying new

  • For obvious reasons, it is the safer choice. A new car has not been exposed to accidents or misuse. It is much less prone to technical problems and requires less need for maintenance.
  • Choosing a new car means there are more models and designs to choose from. The latest technology and features also come with new vehicles.
  • While opting for a new car entails a higher purchasing cost, in the long run, it can prove to be more cost-effective for many reasons. These include higher fuel efficiency, lower upkeep costs, warranty with longer and more extensive coverage, and higher resale value.

Advantages of buying secondhand

  • As mentioned above, new cars are more expensive than secondhand ones. Those who have an insufficient amount of money to purchase a new one or have no access to financing can opt for a used car instead.
  • Cars have one of the quickest depreciation rates because they are heavily used and exposed to many elements. With a used car, depreciation is not that much of a concern.
  • Insurance costs and personal property taxes are significantly lower for used cars compared to new ones, which means more savings.

People who want full control of their car’s movement often go for manual transmission models. But as technology has advanced, car manufacturers are no longer as excited about producing stick. Not all new car drivers and soon-to-be owners know how to drive stick. These days, most people look for automatic transmission cars out of convenience. But there are still those who want to play things old school, and believe there is no substitute for stick driving. Here are models that still offer manual transmission.

Ford Mustang

The Mustang is an iconic vehicle, especially for car fans who have a need for speed. A lot of Mustangs come in automatic transmission, but also come in stick shifts.

Mazda 5

Mazda still produces the Mazda 5 in standard manual transmission. However, its manual gear box is not as high-performance as its automatic transmission version.

Honda Accord

The Honda Accord is the commuter car of America’s middle class. It’s the first Japanese car to ever be manufactured in America, and it always offers a manual transmission option to fans of stick driving.

Volkswagen Golf GTI

The Volksagen Golf GTI, which first saw the stores 30 years ago, is not bidding goodbye to the manual stick. While its upper end versions are also available in manual transmission, car fans still go for the GTI.

What makes a successful team? Is it a result of an effective leadership or teamwork? A long time ago, people alluded a company’s success solely on its leader. But today, a lot of business leaders are valuing the team perspective. How leaders, mentors, and trainers engage their team is essential to the company’s overall success.

Running a company is a challenge for many CEOs and first-liners. If they are too hands-on, they might be putting their team on a leash. But if they lead the team too loosely, they might end up being unproductive. Below are ways leaders can improve their team’s performance:

Encourage creative freedom while defining parameters

An effective team leader lets the team decide where they are heading and is confident of what members can do. When problems arise, they are not afraid to step in and offer solutions that will make the work easier for everyone.

Celebrate team accomplishments while recognizing individual achievements

Team accomplishments are to be celebrated, but a balanced leader also notices the efforts of those who went the extra mile to make things happen.

Train potential leaders while upholding authority in the group

Business leaders who constantly practice balanced leadership look for potential leaders who can take their place. And while they train these future leaders, they do not forget their role as leaders.

The growing concern and fear for worsening climate conditions are global in scale. World leaders and organizations, including the United Nations, are taking the lead in promoting a cleaner and safer environment, while enjoining ordinary citizens. The plan is to significantly reduce carbon emissions by 2020.

Private and public transportation are among the major contributors to the increased volume of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. In fact, in the U.S., cars and trucks account for nearly one-fifth of global emissions. Major industrial countries such as China, for example, are also some of the most trenchant producers of greenhouse gases.

As more UN member-countries are joining the campaign, car owners and car manufacturers are also heeding the call by promoting electric cars. Running on electricity, electric cars produce virtually zero emissions compared to those running on fossil fuels.

A recent study conducted by a group of scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology found that electric cars can already support a driver’s requirements by as much as 87 percent. Most electric grids are also capable of supporting the demand of these types of cars. With the availability of renewable sources of energy, charging electric cars is already cost effective and benign to the environment.

In instances where electric cars can’t operate, Professor Jessica Trancik, the leader of the study, said that there is still a need for better car-sharing services or advancements in other environment-friendly cars that could fill the shortcomings of electric vehicles.

Depending on the type and model of the car, these vehicles will only need to be plugged in once a day to recharge. Consumers can meet their needs for affordable mileage while lessening their carbon footprint.
